To our Pennysaver Readers, Advertisers and Commercial Printing Customers:
We regret to report that with the March 10, 2013 edition, the Scotsman Media Group has published its last Pennysaver. We are proud to have had the opportunity to serve our advertisers and readers since our first published Pennysaver edition back in 1954.
The dedicated men and woman of the Scotsman Media Group look forward to continue offering the community our renowned on-time, quality commercial printing, distribution services and a wide array of our award-winning publications like the Valley News, Today’s CNY Woman, Vacationer and more. Our publications that you have embraced and supported for many years will continue to grow and meet the needs of the market. And through these, we promise to continue to provide print and online coverage in the market. Through our work we showcase for you the people and stories you are interested in, while continuing to offer products giving our advertisers a value-oriented media for offering deals in the market.
With these changes within the company we have laid off approximately 60 employees, about one third of our work force. Please understand this difficult decision was the result of a sudden and dramatic downturn in the company’s Pennysaver advertising business.
On March 8, 2013 the company ceased operations at the following addresses:
- 1658 Clark Street Road, Auburn
- 1 N. Main St., Suite 307, Cortland
Most of the employees at our Auburn and Cortland locations were laid off with these closings. Today the company also laid off employees at three other sites of employment: 750 W. Genesee St., Syracuse; 67 South 2nd St., Fulton; and 41 Kattelville Road, Chenango Bridge. The company will continue operations at its Syracuse, Fulton and Chenango Bridge locations. All layoffs are expected to be permanent.
Many factors led to the downturn in the company’s Pennysaver business including, but not limited to, a myriad of other advertising alternatives in the market. While continued rejuvenation of the Pennysaver product line to better meet advertiser expectations was given consideration, it was decided it would be wiser to redirect our people and resources to focus on our core strengths and more profitable businesses. Going forward, the Scotsman Media Group will continue to strive to develop innovative products and serve the Central New York community working to produce outstanding results for our advertisers and commercial printing customers as well as our readers. The company appreciates your support and encourages you to pick up our products and shop local.
